Sometimes during puberty, a young girl may notice that one breast is not developing as quickly as the other. This can be very distressing to the young woman, causing embarrassment and possibly problems finding properly fitting clothing and undergarments.
Although this is a benign process and a process probably started before birth, there are many ways to treat this problem. Dr. Pollard is familiar with breast reconstructive procedures that can be helpful to young women in these early stages of development. What she usually suggests is a saline filled implant placed behind the underdeveloped breast to allow the breast to catch up with the opposite side. This is a delicate time in young women’s development and we do our best to allow her to be confident going forward. More definitive procedures can be performed when a young woman has reached adulthood, or if she is pleased with the result she can keep the saline implant that she has in place.
Many women have breasts that differ in size or shape. Breast augmentation,
breast lift, and breast reduction can be used to correct this asymmetry. The
procedures used will depend on a woman's age and the degree of difference in
size between the breasts.

You are a good candidate for breast surgery if you feel self-conscious about the size difference of your breasts. Dr. Pollard has experience treating women of all ages, and can recommend the appropriate surgical procedures to enhance your body image.
Pregnancy can alter breast size in an unpredictable way and could affect the long-term results of your surgery. There is no evidence, however, that breast surgery will affect pregnancy or your ability to breastfeed.
You will see the results immediately. However, settling and swelling will affect the final appearance of your breasts. It can take between three and six months before you see the final effect.
Over time, gravity and the effects of aging will continue to alter the size and shape of your breasts.
Any potential complications will be discussed at the time of your consultation. Be sure to give your complete medical history to Dr. Pollard, so that she can adequately assess your health and discuss any risks with you.
